I have an Under Water
housing problem that
I sure could use the meister's help... it
involves water
condensation putting the MX inside it's air
tight
housing and going out side when its hot & humid ;
do I need to use
air conditioning? Kim downunder
Hi chucky-meister...
I spoke with Dr. E about this. He said there really is no answer. You could
use Silica gel, but it does not help with condensation inside the camera.
Also, you would either need a supply of it, or have some way to recharge it
(get friendly with the chef onboard, so he/she can bake the packs in his/her
oven?).
We know of a professional photographer, Bob Yin, that takes a small hair
dryer with him on his trips. He will sit inside an air-conditioned cabin,
and using the hair dryer will warm his camera up before placing it inside the
housing. Obviously, unless you knew what you were doing, there would be
risks involved with doing this. I mean, you wouldn't want to toast your
camera! Ideally, you want the camera dry before closing it into the housing.
Dr. E. said he had not heard of anyone that
actually had damage to their
camera from condensation. It is usually more of a nuisance thing. He said
that if you allow the camera to equalize temperature-wise, the moisture will
dissipate. I realize that this is not always feasible, when on a live
shoot
aboard, or even going out on a dive boat, everything seems to get rushed.
This may not be the answer you were seeking, but I wanted to give you some
kind of answer before I left for the weekend.
It's 3 o'clock & I'm out outta here!
Have a great weekend. Sincerely, JB

Sony SPK-PC4 for 2002
This unit is design for MOST PC series Except
the Mega Pixel! Sorry, I don't make the rules !
It is designed to go only
about 8 feet or two meters
down below the surface which is sufficient for
the
90+% of you snorkeling and near the shore. You
deep divers, ocean bottom crawlers and sea floor
explores will have to pay dearly for the steel and
metal housing that will take !
I also have several USA sources for these Sony's
as well. Just e-mail me. Thanks
Sincerely
the Aloha Kid
