Sony Portable DVCR

Next
week...
2002
starts off with the long awaited replacement
from the five year plus old GVD900 with a Not
so
new 1000 model. Does this mean we have a re -
thinking for a DCR-TRV1000 cam? Hmm. This 4"
a little too thick
& a little under
featured replacement
does have the new USB port along with a long over
due Memory Stick interface. The screen should have
been up to 7 or 8 or even 9 inches on the diagonal
and been wide screen like their Picture Book pocket
Laptop. It does feature LP switch so it can
record as
well as playback either SP / LP
speeds. I would rather
see the capability as promised in 1999 of either mini
or standard size DV
tapes: we'll have to wait I suppose!

We see above (pardon the hieroglyphics!)
Earphone
stereo socket, LANC edit port, S-Video IN and S-Video
out port, switchable RCA audio & video analog all behind
the drop down door. Standard TRV30/PC120 type battery
so different optional extra power batteries and second
source battery makers can be utilized. It's a shame that
they did not use the small tape transport wrapped in an
even smaller housing than the PC120... because if this
DVCR costs anywhere near the TRV30/PC120 I will still
have to recommend a Camcorder as the choice for a
DVCR. Even the cost of the Picture Book is not over
the two grand price and $1699 for the last generation
PCGC1 unit will have to be recommended for an editor!
There is a new C1 that could run as low $999 by this
summer and it is over 1GHz and 512 MB Ram with
40GB HDD! See
CRX.
I have already been asked about my thoughts... If this
unit can sell for $499 street they have a winner, It only
has a 4" under feature screen meaning we may see a
5" incher in 2003 and a decent 7 or 8 incher 2004+
!
It should have been half the thickness due to the
already
small size of the PC120 and TRV30 that also come
with
1.55 Mega Pixel video camera. The ability of a
DVCR to
record PAL & NTSC seemed to fall on 1999 deaf ears
as that was my number one criteria for Tokyo
Sony. The
dual use mini DV and DVCam will arrive at NAB
later this
year. As in the VX2000 versus the
PD150, you will loose
the LP/SP speed option with the Two Format feature.
I
believe the DVCam version is All
Black
BTW. I also saw
a voice recognition system being Beta tested and
it was
dropped due to cost
considerations apparently. Why there
were no dual iLink FireWire ports and RCA
sockets was
also a blown opportunity it seems or will appear in
later
versions... maybe. Don't get your hopes up too high!
Well, we at least will have some inventory now !

For you sports enthusiast that need
to jump, fly,
soar, dirt bike, ski, or other Extreme activities...
This is the DVCR attachable high resolution DV
CAM HEAD that marries into the left side of the
DVCR with a hard connect. The tether is 8 foot.
