Anyone around here see a missing F-14 Tomcat?
OPINION from the
meister's CES
2005 visit
e-mailer question: Can we
get 24p with variable frame rate or should I wait
for something new?
I believe currently it will cost you over five
thousand dollars for that feature and maybe a lot
more until
some of these promised consumer HD cams start
rolling out later this year that we were promised
at
this year's CES show by JVC, Hitachi, Sony, Canon
and Pana. Frame rate I should mention may
actually
become a non starter just like video game arcades
in stores since everyone can NOW have those games
at home or even on the road with a Laptop today...
the arcades are all but gone now.
Another part of this equation is Blu-ray Laser
versus HD DV... both are now looking to be losers
and non
starters as there is a technology out there that
will eclipse both and cost only a fraction.
Technology is moving into high gear and you can
see that right at this moment with Flash Memory.
I even
remember only a few years ago 64MB was the high
end and costing hundreds of dollars... especially
Sony"s
Memory Stick. Last Christmas we had 256MB for $7
in tinier SD / MMC chicklet size. We now have a
mini SD at about HALF the size and 512MB has come
out in THAT size despite the new smaller size.
Now there is still
another, even smaller Flash called Micro Mini
which is getting so small you may need
a pair of tweezers just to hold them and CES
showed a proto-type that had 256MB but the spec
sheet said
1GB will be out with-in a year.
Here is why this is important. Today February 2005
we have a 2GB under $99 and at this rate we will
see
10GB or even 100GB at an astonishingly very cheap
price in months and not Years away.. THAT will
make
high definition in tiny Screens and digital
cameras and even Camcorders all possible... BUT...
ALL INSIDE CELL PHONES
And we all know...many Cell phones are Free.
Uh, Do you see any hand writing on the wall here?
Video will never be the same AGAIN,
me thinks... Videographers... watch
your 6 o-clock.
