This is say nothing about the OUTSTANDING Digital 5.1, 6. HD
Audio !
OLED NEWS? Well.... read for yourself...
IBM Corp. on Friday announced that
it has begun shipping a high-definition flat-panel display
offering PAPER-QUALITY resolution -- a Decade ahead of
schedule!
The new display offers an image
quality that is twice as good as is currently available on High
Definition Plasma's & high end LCDs, but it won't be available
in retail stores until 4th Quarter in the year... 2004 !
See? Told ya...
Industry analyst Ross Young from
DisplaySearch had predicted that mass production of such
displays was more than 10 years away, but IBM drastically
undercut that estimate.
The U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory in California is to be the first
customer to receive the new 22-inch panels. Because the
screens are not YET available for the general public, they
do not have product names. Stay tuned...
Priority for high-end customers

On The Way
Kai Schleupen, manager of the display,
design, and electronics team for IBM's Watson Research center,
said the new displays will initially go to high-end companies
who need the technology first -- in the medical, financial, and
government markets.
The new displays have a 3,840-by-2,400
resolution, which translates to 204 pixels per square inch, or 9
million pixels overall. LCD panels on the market today have in
the range of 88 to 110 pixels per square inch.
The new displays have an aspect ratio of
16 to 10, which will allow users to view two full-sized pages
side-by-side on a screen. 36", 42" and 50" screens are ONLY 9
months behind.
Schleupen called the new displays a step
closer to the paperless office. He also said it is intended to
be used as a desktop computer monitors and to go into Laptops &
Notebooks.

Electronic Show held in Las Vegas, Intel announced
the company’s new liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCOS)
chip that will provide less expensive and better
quality flat-panel TVs. The chip provides crisper
images than rival technologies and could yield
displays that cost below $2,000. Intel plans to
start selling their product later in 2004.
LCOS is a micro-projection technology and is
cheaper than direct view technologies that cost
$6,000 to $10,000. The difference in the two is
that LCOS requires only a tiny amount of
optical-quality glass because the image is created
on a one-inch chip by individually controlling
millions of tiny pixels, whereas with direct-view
technologies the image is created at the actual
size, requiring more optical-quality glass. The
more optical-quality glass used, the more
expensive the product will be.
Some major electronics corporations are already
selling the flat panel LCOS, but a display
technologies manager at Intel says the difference
is Intel will have crispier images because the
Intel chips are 100 percent digital as opposed to
most LCOS technologies that still control the
liquid crystals using analogue voltages, which are
harder to produce accurately. Typical 42" is $1999
and a whopping discount of $875 for a 32"
Amazing. Tomorrow HAS arrived
