MARCH 2003

The meister's
WHITE PAPER
We are about to celebrate about this time next
year the 10th anniversary of DV... before you
start firing off to me e-mails...  I know it would
be not until NAB 1995 the USA would see them
(Sony's VX1000 & Pana's DV1000).         I am
stating this because of what I'm about to say...

There just may very well be ONLY 2 DV cams
       left by that anniversary date...
say Goodbye DV!

My beloved MX5000 is One Year Old Already
& You Won't Believe What Is Coming Next
!

And get ready for the High Definition wars...
It looks already a format skirmish with DVD
having three going on 5 formats up for grabs.
"Can't we all just get along?"

PMA Write Up

Blue Laser, mini DVD's, encased DVD's???
Nope, none of the above...  This is what your
meister saw... it is already in print so there
is no going back... a postage stamp Flash Mem
chip that hit 1GB last year, is set for the 2 GB
        release any day now &
4 GB by end of 2004!
  ... and get this...
18 GB by Dec 2006 !

How much will these chippies be? Cheap, dirt
cheap as R&D cost have mostly been amortized
according to IBM @ Triangle Park N.C.   Pana
will have the 4  GB ready for their entire cam
line both video, photo and now music.  Sony
is trying to tie up Microsoft to support theirs
with Music & Data in computers like Laptops
but more importantly... Palm form factors.

Loading these chips into a kind of ammo clip
and in no time five or maybe four will yield
RAID levels or 100+ Giga Bytes of storage!

MPEG4 and you are talking gobs of hours
and if you are talking High Definition with
the amount of Bandwidth & storage space
that's concomitant ... enter the Tetra-Flops
or a billion billions.

Now we have the makings of a video & audio
capture system & a music and data playback
& entry system (read computer) that is: wrist
watch size & more powerful than any of today's
individual systems which this will all replace
in one giant technology leap... and it will be
here sooner than any of us can realize; in fact
I hear it already at the door !

How does OLED fit in? Can't watch TV or
movies on a wrist watch... so, it'll be like a
100 dollar bill or maybe at least folded up
next to one and you just unfold it... once &
you have a Great wide screen 2 3/4" X 6"
and unfold it twice 5" by 12" and 4 times
and you get  18" by 10" HD Wide Screen!

Now, what happened to all those shootouts
meister guy?  The results were NOT in the
favor with many of the popular 3 chip brands
and unfortunately... many US jobs could be
adversely affected... so I elected to hold my
posting and let people on their own come up
to me at shows, conventions or via e-mail to
ask what concerned them and their particular
circumstances & choices & about the outcome.

This is not a perfect world & not everything
can be laid out in a neat and timely manner
especially when it comes to bad news...
Suffice it to say... the MX units that went to
Europe and other PAL locations, got stripped
some very critical features and worse the two
new 3CCD models that will show up in the
States are going to fare: worse... sad to say.
      The
MX5000 still reigns supreme & the new
mini version I call the MX6000 that's smaller
            than a Sony PC120 1CCD is...   hundreds
cheaper
or at least the
non American version !
